The Challenge
In residential programs serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, privacy and personal independence are essential components of quality of life. At the same time, environments must remain accessible, safe, and supportive for individuals with varying physical, cognitive, and mobility needs.
Traditional keyed locks can create challenges:
- Keys may be difficult to use or manage for some individuals

ADAPT sought a solution that would allow individuals to independently control access to their personal spaces, while remaining flexible enough to support a wide range of abilities and support needs.
The Solution
After evaluating options, ADAPT selected the ULTRALOQ Latch 5 smart lock by Xthings for use on entry doors across its residential programs.
The organization is deploying the solution across 500+ doors, beginning with locations operated by ADAPT and its affiliates.
